What is a Continuous Traveler on Drivers License Oregon

Topic: Oregon As State Of Residence
Posted By: 1L243 on 04/07/13 07:16pm Anybody using Oregon as their State of residence? What address do you claim for your DL? If we do this I would go with a UPS box or some similar postal forwarding service but I have read that you can not use this as a address for your DL?

If you have a choice of where to reside, why would you want to be somewhere that has an income tax?

Posted By: 1L243 on 04/07/13 08:16pm I can see why Oregon requires you to be a Oregon resident prior to requesting continuous traveler status but MUST you retire from a Oregon business to qualify?

Continuous Traveler

An applicant who travels continuously may use a residence address of "continuous traveler" if the applicant is a resident of or domiciled in Oregon but has no physical home in Oregon. For instance, an applicant who has retired from an Oregon employer may present papers indicating he/she sold a home in Oregon and purchased a motor home

What's wrong with a no income tax state, we summered two years in Oregon and enjoyed the no sales tax and our no income tax state, best of both worlds.

You can purchase a vehicle anywhere. You just have to register it in your state of residence subject to their sales tax laws.

Posted By: 1L243 on 04/08/13 10:29am Yes, but you will have to pay sales tax on the vehicle from your resident state, assuming the state has sales tax. Since I have lived in Oregon (10 years) I have purchased four trucks, five motorcycles and 5 recreational vehicles and other high priced appliances and no sales tax on any of them. Oregon also has low DMV fees. Where I use to live CA, DMV fees were 5 times what I pay here, property tax was more and you have to pay 10 cents of every dollar to the state for everything you purchase. And if you live in Ca you can't buy a new vehicle or one with less than 7000 miles on it out of state.

Now if want to talk about Oregon weather.....It rains here......alot.....

Posted By: 1L243 on 04/08/13 01:15pm Orygun don't care about vehicle purchases. I suspect if they made money by collecting taxes they would. I bought vehicles in CA and registered them up here, no problem. A friend in CA bought a motorcycle from New York, had it shipped to CA went down to register it. He was told could not register it in CA because of the low mileage and he had 30 days to sell the vehicle OUT OF STATE. The vehicle was red flagged so he could not go out and put several thousand miles on it and bring it back to DMV... I am glad I am gone from that state.
Posted By: tempforce on 04/08/13 05:38pm if you had a residence in oregon, you could possibly acquire a traveler license. with that you could purchase vehicles. but if you have a residence in another state, when your home state finds out. you will get taxed and fined. as oregon has an agreement with other states to forward vehicle registration information..
a method you may want to check into, if you have family or friends who live in oregon. that you can use their address for a state residence requirement..
