In the movie Who'southward That Girl, ane man asks some other:
-- How'south it hanging?
-- It'due south hanging okay. Thanks for request, Buck.

Is it a more breezy fashion of asking "How'south it going?"?

In the movie Who's That Girl, one human asks another:
-- How's it hanging?
-- Information technology's hanging okay. Thanks for asking, Cadet.

Is it a more informal style of asking "How's it going?"?
Cheers.

Information technology is a VERY breezy manner of saying 'how are yous doing?'. So informal that information technology borders on vulgar.

In the animation ParaNorman, Norman, a male child who is able to see ghosts, is walking down the street and greeting the ghosts he encounters. One of them is a female airplane pilot stuck in a tree with her parachute. He to her:
-- Howdy. How'south it hanging?
-- [laughing] Haven't heard that one before. Well, it's a nice day.

The woman'due south outfit suggests she is from, like, the first half of the 20th century I recall. So, is the joke here that this "taboo" expression is new enough and so that the woman hadn't heard it in her life? Give thanks you.

I doubt that information technology'due south that new. I think that she'south laughing because no ane has said it to her before (meet #two).

I doubt that it's that new. I think that she'southward laughing because no one has said it to her before (see #ii).

So maybe the joke is that the boy himself doesn't know the "real" meaning, and the woman understands it?

So maybe the joke is that the boy himself doesn't know the "existent" significant, and the woman understands information technology?

I'm certain that is part of it as well.

She's literally hanging from a tree. Anybody (who can encounter her) asks her "How's it hanging?" (as a joke) in the same mode that tall people are asked "How'southward the conditions up in that location?"
She sarcastically replies "I haven't heard that 1 (that joke) before." meaning that she'south heard that joke many times.

She'south literally hanging from a tree. Anybody (who can come across her) asks her "How'due south it hanging?" (every bit a joke) in the aforementioned way that tall people are asked "How's the conditions up there?"
She sarcastically replies "I haven't heard that ane (that joke) before." meaning that she's heard that joke many times.

Then "How'south it hanging?" is not necessarily associated with the testicles, and the meaning generally depends on context?...

And then "How's it hanging?" is not necessarily associated with the testicles, and the pregnant generally depends on context?...

Read the before parts of the thread. Testicles are "they" non "it." It's generally non taken literally just as "goodbye" isn't taken as "God be with you" and someone "How are you lot?" doesn't really await an accurate, detailed report on your health. That's why she answers "It's a nice day." instead of "A little to the left." ;)

Read the earlier parts of the thread. Testicles are "they" not "it." It's generally non taken literally just as "bye" isn't taken equally "God be with yous" and someone "How are you?" doesn't really expect an accurate, detailed report on your health. That's why she answers "It's a nice 24-hour interval." instead of "A little to the left." ;)

Oh, yep, it'southward "it". The point is in "How are you?" and "cheerio" in that location is not a taboo implication. But if "How'due south information technology hanging?" originally implies that, then every time, as you're suggesting, someone tells that to her, information technology's a reminder of that thing:confused:
